I live in an old building, why do my refrigerators keep dying?

I live in a 90 year old building. I've had 3 refrigerators and they all keep dying. Occasionally, if I unplug and re-plug, everything fires up again for a short period. What can be some electrical causes of this strange situation? We've tested the outlets with a ground tester, everything comes back normal.
